The City of Austin’s golf program has a long tradition of affordable quality golf. Many great players such as Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw could be found playing round after round of golf during their youth and as young adults.

Jimmy Clay Golf Course was opened in 1974 as a relatively flat site surrounded by Williamson Creek. Designed by noted golf course Architect, Joe Finger, the course plays 6918 yards through treed areas, as well as, open spaces. The course is characterized by its relatively large, elevated greens, and forgiving tee shots. In 2007, the popular golf course under major renovations. This included: three holes being redesigned, all of the greens being replanted, and all of the bunkers being rebuilt.

Roy Kizer Golf Course (www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/kizer/htm) was converted from an abandoned wastewater plant. This 6,749 yard, par 71 course embodies the design philosophy "to give pleasure to the greatest number of players without respect to their capabilities". A links-style layout, spread over almost 200 acres is bordered by cedars, elms and oaks. 35 acres of lakes and 22 acres of wetlands have been created for resident and migratory waterfowl. Despite the acreage devoted to lakes, Kizer is suitable for players of all levels. Ample fairways and the choice of 5 sets of tees provide each golfer the opportunity to play a course that fits their skill level and a variety of ways to negotiate the challenges.

Morris Williams Golf Course (www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/morriswilliams.htm) was constructed in 1963 and opened in 1964 as Austin's 3rd municipal course. Designed by Leon Howard, one of the most prolific golf course architects of the time, the course features small, slightly elevated, contoured greens. These features combined with the rolling terrain probably make Morris Williams Golf Course the most difficult of all of the city's courses. However, the recent addition of forward tees and the improved turf make the course playable for all levels of golfers.
